The Horticulture Internship at Fort Williams Park is designed for college students or individuals who seek a valuable learning experience in public horticulture and environmental stewardship. Interns will work closely with staff to complete meaningful projects that are aligned with the Ecology Project, the Friends’ long-term, park-wide effort to improve the ecological health and sustainability of Fort Williams Park.

Requirements:

• Performs horticulture-related tasks; uses a variety of tools. • Works to accomplish assigned individual tasks; participates as a team member. • Communicates with staff about progress and needs related to tasks. • Learns plant identification and botanical names, as appropriate. • Becomes familiar with the mission of FFWP and the principles of the Ecology Project. Engages with the public by answering general questions about FFWP and the Ecology Project. • Assists with volunteer events, educational programs, and/or special events as needed. • Logs, tracks, and submits completed time sheets.

Qualifications:

• Practical experience in horticulture, landscape design, or landscape maintenance and/or be enrolled in a college horticulture or related program. • Organization and time-management skills, along with attention to detail and follow-through. • Flexibility and a positive attitude; enthusiasm about learning ecological gardening practices. • Can engage in extended periods of physical labor; can lift materials up to 40lbs. • Has transportation to and from Fort Williams Park.
