Intern Position: Data Analyst
Organization: Cobbosseecontee Lake Association (CLA)
Location: Central Southern Maine
Position Overview: Join the CLA as we embark on an exciting initiative to create a comprehensive database for tracking the effectiveness of our Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) control programs. As a Data Analyst Intern, you will play a crucial role in processing data, generating insightful reports, and analyzing the impact of our programs on invasive species management.
Key Responsibilities:
Process and analyze data related to the annual abundance of invasive species and their locations within lake subsectors.
Create effectiveness reports measuring metrics such as plants removed per hour and littoral acres surveyed per hour.
Compare performance metrics with benchmark lakes of similar size and character.
Present findings in an annual report format for CLA members, partners, and benchmark lake associations.
Collaborate closely with the CLA Lake Manager and resources at Watershed Friends, a regional conservancy organization focused on aquatic invasive plant control.
Schedule and Compensation:
Duration: 10 weeks, from June to August (flexible schedule)
Hours: 32 hours per week
Compensation: $20 – $25 per hour, depending on experience (paid bi-weekly)
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field with coursework in data analysis or management.
Proficiency in database programs and data reporting.
Specific Skills Required:
Experience in data collection, summarization, and reporting.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including knowledge of formulas, conditional formatting, and multi-variable chart creation.
Desirable Skills:
Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
Experience with ArcGIS.
