Catholic Charities Maine Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired Children currently has a Full-Time opening for a TVI Assistant.

The TVI Assistant is a paraprofessional who provides in-person instructional and program support to children (ages 0–22) who are blind or visually impaired. The TVI Assistant works under the guidance of the Teacher of Blind and Visually Impaired Children (TVI) to implement educational programming that supports student access and independence in the least restrictive environment. Support includes instructional activities designed by the TVI in areas such as Braille prep, assistive technology, independent living skills, and social development.

This position is primarily field-based/in-person, with responsibilities carried out in homes, schools, or community settings, while collaborating with a remotely based TVI.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: The Teacher of Blind and Visually Impaired Children I shall have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a specialty in education for the blind/visually impaired from an accredited and recognized university or college program. Maine certification (291) is required. A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching children who are blind and visually impaired, including pre-school children, is required. Experience providing virtual instruction and supervising or collaborating with paraprofessional staff is preferred.
