May 7, 2025

Auburn, ME – Central Maine Community College is proud to announce that Eliane Mbole and Lawrence Wing have been selected as recipients of the 2025 Leon A. Gorman Scholarship for the 2024–2025 academic year. This scholarship was established by the family of Leon A. Gorman in honor of his 80th birthday to celebrate his enduring commitment to education and community service. Gorman, who served as president and CEO of L.L.Bean from 1967 to 2001, was a passionate advocate for Maine’s community colleges.

Awarded annually, the Leon A. Gorman Scholarship recognizes students who excel academically and embody a strong dedication to community involvement—values that reflect the life and legacy of its namesake. The scholarship covers full tuition for the academic year.

Eliane Mbole

Eliane Mbole, a standout in CMCC’s Nursing program, has earned the 2025 Gorman Scholarship for her tireless dedication to her studies, her classmates, and her community. Known for her collaborative spirit, Eliane is always ready to support her peers through the challenges of coursework and clinical training.

In addition to her academic achievements, Eliane is a devoted mother of three, actively involved in her children’s school through volunteering and service on the PTA. Her instructor, Michelle Gosselin, captured the essence of her impact by stating, “her potential for success is undeniable, and I am confident that this opportunity will further empower her to achieve great things. Eliane exemplifies the concepts of a true nurse: kindness, compassion, dedication, scholarship and a giving heart.”

Lawrence Wing

Lawrence Wing is a dedicated student in the Early Childhood Education program. Lawrence was selected for his outstanding academic performance, his passion for becoming a lifelong educator for Maine’s children, and his generous volunteer efforts coaching youth baseball and soccer through the Brunswick Recreation Department.

Outside the classroom, Lawrence is raising two daughters, works as a full-time nanny, and holds an additional job to help support his family. He has been recognized for his tireless efforts to create safe, nurturing, and dynamic environments where children can grow, learn, and thrive.

With his Early Childhood Education degree, Lawrence will be a leader in creating dynamic and healthy environments for Maine children to grow and learn.
