Kathy McManus Named Faculty Emeritus by Maine Community College System Board of Trustees
Auburn, ME – Central Maine Community College is proud to announce that Kathy McManus has been named Faculty Emeritus by the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees. The honorary designation recognizes retired faculty members whose distinguished careers have made lasting contributions to their college, students, and profession.
McManus dedicated more than 30 years to CMCC, beginning as an adjunct nursing faculty member in 1994 before joining the nursing department full time in 2001. She later served as nursing department chair for more than a decade, providing leadership that helped strengthen the college’s nursing program while maintaining a strong commitment to excellence, ethics, and student success.
Throughout her career, McManus played an active role in the life of the college beyond the classroom. She served on numerous campus committees, including the Faculty Management Committee, co-chaired CMCC’s Achieving the Dream initiatives, and contributed to the college’s strategic planning efforts through the Horizons committee. She was also a trusted mentor to faculty across campus and to nurse educators throughout Maine.
McManus helped expand access to nursing education by supporting the launch of CMCC’s nursing program in Damariscotta in 2010 and the evenings and weekends nursing program in Auburn in 2023. She remained dedicated to professional growth throughout her career, maintaining current training and continuing education while serving on several professional boards, including the Maine State Board of Nursing.
Her leadership also extended to accreditation, where she guided the college through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) process and assisted with New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) accreditation visits. Her steady leadership and collaborative approach helped ensure the continued strength and quality of CMCC’s nursing program.
During a period of significant growth and change at the college, McManus remained a respected leader and advocate for students, faculty, and the nursing profession. Her commitment to excellence, mentorship, and service has left a lasting impact on Central Maine Community College and the many students, colleagues, and healthcare professionals whose lives she influenced.
Central Maine Community College congratulates Kathy McManus on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her extraordinary dedication and service to the college and the nursing profession.
