CM Foundation Celebrates Student Achievements at Annual Awards Event

Over 160 people gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn on Tuesday, April 25 for the Central Maine Commu­nity College (CMCC) Annual Awards hosted by the CM Education Foundation Board of Directors.

After welcoming remarks from Foundation Board Chair Jennifer Hogan, CMCC President Betsy Libby delivered updates on the College’s projects and activities. The event concluded with the presentation of awards to students, employees, and supporters for their achievements or contributions to the college.

The list of students highlighted in the event’s award presentations include Patricia Benson of Dixfield, Destiny Daigle of Jay, and Caleb March of Otisfield who were named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Maine Academic Team; Asma Hassan of Lewiston, CMCC Student of the Year; Christina Martin of Lewiston and Lindsey Campbell of Mechanic Falls named as the Against All Odds Award recipients; Elizabeth Lapointe of Leeds being named the Yes, I Can Award recipient; Jacob Atwood of Embden received the Triumph Over Adversity award; Jean-Luc Dostie of Lewiston named as the Student Veteran of the Year; Dianna Wood of Auburn and Noah Warszawski of Lewiston who were both awarded the Scholarship Recipient of the Year award; Emily Strachan of Lewiston was named the Female Athlete of the Year and Boston Caldwell of Auckland, New Zealand was named the Male Athlete of the Year; Corinne Bailey a Vocational Trades Instructor at Southern Maine Women’s Re-Entry Center received the President’s Award; and Lewiston Public Schools received the Community Partner of the Year.

Proceeds from the dinner, which are expected to exceed $38,000, will benefit the foundation’s scholarship fund. The mission of the foundation is to provide financial support to CMCC and its students, to advocate on behalf of the college, and to nurture relationships with the community and constituencies. The foundation has raised more than $1.4 million dollars in scholarships for the college.
