A Message to Students About the Spring Semester Remote Start

Dear CMCC Student,

Thank you for enrolling at Central Maine Community College. The end of the fall semester is in sight and I hope you are able to enjoy some well-deserved downtime in the upcoming weeks.

With the rise of positive COVID-19 cases in Maine to over 400 daily and the prediction that cases will continue to increase as a result of holiday gatherings later this month, I am writing to let you know that the spring semester will be 100% remote for all courses for the first two weeks of the semester starting on January 11. The earliest on-ground instruction will begin is Monday, January 25, and this date will be monitored pending available COVID-19 data/information the second week of January.

Below is more information that I hope answers the questions you might have:

  • If you have courses that were scheduled to be on campus, faculty will reach out to you on or before January 7th to let you know about the remote plan of instruction. Please allow faculty the time to finish up the current term and to formulate their remote plans for the spring semester.
  • Students who have an internship, clinical, practicum, field experience, etc. with an outside agency may begin that work prior to January 25 as long as the agency is open to having them.
  • Residence hall students will move in on Sunday, January 24 as long as on-campus instruction is scheduled to start on the 25th.
  • Campus buildings will be open from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. during winter break and 7:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m. during the first two weeks of the semester if you need to come to campus, but please keep in mind that instruction/business that can be conducted remotely via phone, email, Zoom, etc. must be.

I wish you and yours a happy holiday season,
