Criminal Justice
The Criminal Justice associate in applied science degree prepares graduates for entry-level positions in the criminal justice field or for transfer to a baccalaureate degree program. The program is designed for students who want a foundation for careers in law enforcement. Degree-specific skills include basic tactical patrol skills, fitness for law enforcement duty, communication/de-escalation, crime scene processing, and defense tactics.

All students taking Criminal Justice courses will be subject to a criminal background check. While a criminal conviction does not automatically prevent one from being accepted into the program, an applicant will be denied acceptance if s/he has a “disqualifying conviction” or committed “disqualifying conduct” as defined by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Such convictions or conduct prohibit a person from being certified / licensed as a police officer in the State of Maine.
