WE ENCOURAGE ALL STUDENTS TO APPLY
At CMCC, One Form is All You Need: The FAFSA
Learn how to apply for financial aid, understand FAFSA updates, and prepare the information needed to complete your application.
Before You Start the FAFSA
Review the information below to learn more about important FAFSA updates, required accounts, contributor information, and the details needed to ensure CMCC receives your application information.
Let's Get Started
Create your FSA ID
Your First Step: Before completing the FAFSA, you must create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) account. Your FSA ID serves as your username and password for accessing and signing federal financial aid documents online.
Create your FSA ID Watch the FSA ID Video TutorialWho Needs an FSA ID?
An FSA ID is required for:
- Students completing the FAFSA
- Parents or contributors required to provide FAFSA information
- Spouses contributing information to the FAFSA, if applicable
Contributors are required to create an FSA ID even if they do not have a Social Security Number.
Important: Allow Time for Verification
After creating your FSA ID, the Social Security Administration requires approximately 3 business days to verify your Social Security Number before your account can be fully used.
We strongly recommend creating your FSA ID early and not waiting until the FAFSA deadline.
Consent & Approval
FAFSA Contributors
The FAFSA now requires certain individuals to provide information and consent as part of the application process.
A contributor is anyone required to provide information, consent, approval, and a signature on a student’s FAFSA. Contributors may include a parent, stepparent, spouse, or the student themselves.
Contributors are not financially responsible for the student’s education.
Contributors may include:
- Spouse
- Student
- Parent
- Stepparent

What You’ll Need

Financial Aid Overview
Have questions about paying for college? You’re not alone. Here’s a quick breakdown of financial aid at CMCC and how to get started.
How do I apply for financial aid?
To get started, complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This form determines your eligibility for federal, state, and some institutional aid. Be sure to list CMCC’s school code 005276 so your information is sent directly to us.
When should I apply?
You should complete your FAFSA as soon as it opens to maximize your eligibility for aid. Applying early can help you access more funding opportunities.
What is the FAFSA and how does it work?
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) collects information about you and your family’s financial situation to determine your eligibility for aid. When completing your application, be sure to include CMCC’s school code 005276 so we can receive your information.
Aid is available only for coursework that applies toward the student’s current degree or certificate program. Courses not required for program completion and non-credit courses do not qualify for financial aid.
What happens after I submit my FAFSA?
After submitting your FAFSA, CMCC will review your information and may request additional documents. Once everything is complete, you’ll receive a financial aid offer outlining your options.
How do I check the status of my financial aid application?
Log into your self-service student portal to check your financial aid status at any time.
What types of financial aid are available?
Students may qualify for grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and student loans. For a complete overview of aid types, loan activation steps, bookstore allowances, and refund policies, download this General Financial Aid Information PDF. CMCC is always here to help you understand which options are available to you.
Do I have to pay financial aid back?
Grants and scholarships do not need to be repaid. Student loans must be repaid after you leave school, and work-study is earned through part-time employment.

Students and parents may be required to submit documents to Student Financial Services in support of the FAFSA. Most documents require a signature from the student and may also require a parent or spouse signature.
Signing another person’s name is considered fraud. Documents suspected of containing fraudulent signatures must be resubmitted with a notarized signature.
Student Financial Services reserves the right to discontinue processing any application where fraud is suspected. In such cases, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of the Inspector General will be notified.
