March 23, 2016
Fourteen Maine community college students have been named to the 2016 All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges. They were honored at a ceremony in Augusta hosted by the Maine Community College System (MCCS) Board of Trustees. The two CMCC students receiving the award, which includes a $500 scholarship, are Phillip Dougherty from Milton Township and Savannah Porter from Sumner.
Phillip is enrolled in the Criminal Justice program in which he has earned highest honors. A member of the Criminal Justice Club and Student Senate he plans a career in law enforcement while continuing his education.
Savannah has earned highest honors in the Early Childhood Education program. She hopes to continue her studies at the bachelor’s level and become a pediatric or intensive care nurse.
The All-Maine Academic Team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Students are nominated and selected for the team by their college based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and service. The All-Maine Academic Team is co-sponsored by Northeast Trophy, Phi Theta Kappa, and the MCCS.
