Description:

Wiscasset Family Health is looking to hire a Medical Assistant that is willing to cross train as an administrative assistant when needed. We’re looking to fill a clinical position 3 days a week but will hire a full time employee to fill the gap as an administrative assistant.

General Description: The clinical support staff should be energetic and organized individuals who will perform certain routine clinical and administrative tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioners while providing complete and timely patient centered care to the top of their licensing by the state of Maine. Must have at least 1 year experience as a medical assistant working in a healthcare setting.

Duties: Work within a health practitioner, clinical support staff and administrative assistant team while performing clinical and administrative duties below.

Responsibilities and Duties

CLINICAL DUTIES

May include, but not limited to:

Perform nursing procedures under supervision of physician or physician assistant
Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms
Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, along with HPI then document all information in patient’s chart
Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant
Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment
Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required
Preparing and administering vaccines and injectable medications
Drawing blood
Taking electrocardiograms, spirometry, AAA screens, bladder screens, etc.
Removing sutures and changing dressings
Maintain medical supply inventory
Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, lab equipment controls, etc.)
Taking medical histories
Explaining treatment procedures to patients
Preparing patients for examination
Assisting the health practitioner during exams
Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
Assisting the health practitioner
Report to practice manager, assigned health practitioner and medical director
All other duties as assigned by medical director or practice manager

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

May include, but not limited to:
Using computer applications
Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls as needed
Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants as needed
Answering telephones
Greeting patients
Report to practice manager, assigned health practitioner and medical director
All other duties as assigned by medical director or practice manager
Updating patient medical records in progress notes
Basic coding for immunizations, procedures etc.
Scheduling appointments as requested
