Youth Ambassador (Part-time) Youth Homelessness Program

Volunteers of America Northern New England is currently seeking an individual who wants to make a profound difference in the lives of youth and young adults (YYA) ages 18-24.

We are currently seeking a Youth Ambassador for our Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP). This is a paid part-time position with a $16.00/hr wage. This individual should have experienced homelessness as a youth (and found success in being housed) and be compassionate to the needs of the YYA currently experiencing homelessness working with VOA Northern New England in our YHDP program. This individual will provide support to the YYA enrolled in our YHDP program.

The Youth Ambassador will provide encouragement, resources and guidance from a peer, with past lived experience, that allows the YYA to understand that various types of support are available to them. The Youth Ambassador position will bridge the gap of understanding between the YYA, landlords, and YHDP staff in order for the needs of the YYA to be met.

Duties would include but are not limited to:

Creating individualized relationships of support.
Development of a peer support group for YYA.
Helping YYA to utilize their strengths to overcome barriers allowing the YYA to make positive life changes.
Bridge the gap between the YYA, community, service providers, and YHDP team.
New Skills training.
Conduct Tenant and Life Skills training.
Ability to work remotely, and when appropriate, some travel will be necessary. Currently, housing is typically found within the Lewiston, ME and Portland, ME areas (may not be limited to these regions based on other available resources). Some travel to typical housing locations along I-95 will need to take place occasionally.

Strong wage: $16 per hour
Flexible Office – Hybrid Remote
Part-time position- 8 to 10 hours per week (More hours available at the start of position for training).

Valid Maine Driver’s License with clean driving record.
Position may require a 3-year DMV background check and a criminal history background check. Must be able to provide authorization to such as requested for pre-employment.
Must have experienced homelessness as a youth and then found success in being housed during this time.
Must be an established resident of the state of Maine, and permanently reside in Maine for this position.
