Summit Geoengineering Services, Inc. (SGS) is seeking a full-time (M-F) ‘Drilling Assistant Tech’ for our 64 Augusta Road, Washington, ME shop.  For the right candidate, this job offers ample opportunity to advance in becoming a full-time Driller. We are interested in candidates who are hard-working, physically capable, committed people that are safety conscious, mechanically inclined, and team oriented.

All new employees are mentored, starting on straight forward, relatively simple projects so they can get a feel for how we operate at SGS.  More complicated projects will be assigned as one develops competency in their field.

Job Details

  • Salary range: $22.00 – $35.00/hour – based on experience
  • Work will be:
  • o    Assisting SGS Drillers in field operations; learning drilling methodologies for test borings and excavation of test pits; carrying out basic maintenance of tools and equipment, housekeeping, performing basic measurement and calculations, carrying out basic operator maintenance, complete pre-start checks, and refilling fuel.
  • o    For projects largely in Maine with infrequent trips within New England, including occasional company paid over-night stays required.
  • o    Predominately year-round outdoors, active, and extremely dynamic.
  • Monitoring a safe workplace, maintain workplace safety and apply risk management processes for elimination of work-related injuries, damage to equipment and incident-related lost time.


  • Preferred Training (but will work with the right candidate):
  • o    Drilling, Mechanic and/or welding skills
  • o    Ability to obtain CDL Class A license (required for advancement)
  • o    OHSA Construction 10-hour safety training
  • o    OHSA HAZWOPER 40-hour safety training
  • Self-motivated to learn new skills for advancement as a driller
  • Willingness to travel within Maine and occasionally New England
  • Reliable to handle a variable schedule and range of outdoor work environments
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities are important
  • Be physically fit
