Description:

Conduct recreational marine fishing surveys along Maine’s coast. These surveys are part of the National Marine Fisheries Service MRIP and HMS programs.

Spend the summer outdoors engaging marine anglers to participate in fishing surveys which support fishery management and industry planning. Apply your skills for planning ahead, being timely, quickly learning and following procedures, adapting, and communicating well with team members. An ease in enlisting participation to take on-site surveys is necessary. Work is independent but in conjunction with a small team. A positive attitude is a must.

Those living along major coastal and highway routes from Augusta south and east are in the best positions for this work. The majority of activity is along southern and mid coastal ME. Travel is by state of Maine vehicle and is paid time.

Requirements:

Successful candidates need to be 18 or older, have a current driver's license (held for at least 1 year), a clean driving record, and successfully pass a background check. State vehicles are provided and travel is paid. A willingness for substantial travel to popular coastal locations is a must. Training is provided at start of work, and successful completion is required.

Qualifications:

Keen attention to detail, dedication to accurate data recording, strong ability to plan ahead, prompt by habit, quick at learning, able to work independently and consistently follow procedures, willingness to adapt to a changing schedule, ability to work weekends, strong communication skills. A positive attitude and an ease in approaching people to enlist participation in surveys are necessary traits.

Pay Rate: $17/hour
