Nursing Companion Roles

Companion roles at Maine Medical center give you the opportunity to work closely with patients, and enjoy the flexibility of working the hours that work for your schedule. Nursing students can be hired from 12 hours per week, up to 24 per week with wages starting at $17.25 per hour. Rates of pay are based on experience and which role you apply for; CNA Companions start at a minimum of $19 per hour. This is an excellent opportunity for nursing students to gain additional experience in a clinical setting.
CNA Companion Position Summary:
Under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurses and according to defined policies and procedures, performs various service duties and technical tasks such as taking vital signs and assisting patients with basic hygiene and activities of daily living. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment. Consideration of the special needs and behaviors of specific patient populations is required.
Qualifications for CNA Companion Roles:
- Education: Participates in continuing education relative to role as defined.
- License/Certifications: Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant by the State of Maine and be on the State of Maine Registry, having completed a six-week or equivalent course.
- Experience: N/A
Non-CNA/Nursing Companion Position Summary:
Under supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and according to established policies and procedures, performs various service duties to provide supervision, companionship, and support to the patient. Helps to maintain patient room in a clean and orderly condition. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment.
Qualifications for non-CNA Companion Roles:
- Education: Requires ability to read, write, and complete an institutional training program.
- License/Certifications: N/A
- Experience: N/A
