We open our huts for summer operations mid-May and are looking for two students to join us as hut caretakers under the supervision of the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as host for groups that have booked stays at the hut
  • Orienting groups with the hut and providing any assistance they need during their stay
  • Operating the energy, communications, & waste systems at the hut
  • Maintaining and cleaning the hut and bunkhouses
  • Keeping inventory of supplies at the hut and providing lists of needed supplies to Operations Manager on a regular basis
  • Preparing and selling food and beverages for the general public on weekends when the hut is and is not reserved by a group (Stratton Brook Hut only)
  • Maintaining the area and trails surrounding the hut

Skills developed will include:

  • Customer service
  • Backcountry hut/system operations
  • Food preparation
  • Inventory tracking
  • Basic bookkeeping
  • Trail building/maintenance

These positions will require 40 hours of work per week most weeks, with most weekends being required. Other projects and responsibilities not outlined above may be available, based on the students’ interest, at the discretion of the Operations Manager.  The start date for these positions will be May 22 and the end date will be August 23. Compensation will include a wage of $15/hour and free housing at either Stratton Brook Hut or Flagstaff Lake Hut for the entire summer.
