School Crossing Guard

Accepting applications for SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD. Applications available at the Human Resources Department or online at www.lewistonmaine.gov.

SCHEDULE:  School Year – August 30, 2023 through June 2024

HOURS:         Monday-Friday 7:00am – 8:00am and 2:30pm – 3:30pm

PAY:               $13.80/hour (Does not get paid for school vacations)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: General knowledge of traffic control procedures. Basic first aid knowledge.

WORK ACTIVITIES: Direct or escort students across streets, stopping traffic as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand/walk in all types of weather for an hour to 90 minutes at a time and be able to use a hand-held stop sign. Must have own transportation to and from post and should possess basic understanding of traffic movement and pedestrian behavior (especially students). Display confidence and ability necessary to take control of an intersection and stop vehicular traffic to ensure the safe movement of children crossing the roadway. Maintain effective communication with students, school personnel, police, and the general public. Must have clean background/criminal history.
