SUMMARY: Tree and Open Space Division Highway Workers have a direct impact on the overall appearance and maintenance of all public areas within the City of Lewiston. Learn a new trade while enjoying each day working outdoors!
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent GED, plus three (3) years experience in landscaping, construction, snow removal, tree work, or related field. Must have a valid State of Maine Class B driver’s license (with tanker endorsement), or able to obtain within first year of employment. Background in landscaping/open space maintenance is ideal.
WORK ACTIVITIES: General maintenance and landscaping activities: includes mowing, weed whacking, raking, shoveling, sidewalk sweeping/shoveling, painting, planting, mulching, pruning, weeding, etc. Performs pool maintenance, catch basin inspections, and athletic field preparation. Participates in lawn repair, loam work, and winter operations such as snowplowing and snow removal. May operate various pieces of equipment, depending on license status. Must be able to complete accurate records of time and materials used. Will take part in ongoing training regarding equipment skills and other operations. Interacts with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Must be available for emergency operations and overtime, as required. Able to follow oral and written instruction, and perform other duties as assigned.
