Status: Full-Time, Exempt (37.5 hrs/wk, Monday-Thursday)
Grade: 7 [$68,601.00-$81,783.00]
SUMMARY: Assumes responsibility of the monthly utility, Public Works folio charges, and inventory activity. Performs monthly general operating bank reconciliations, cost accounting and oversees the direction of municipal payables, receivables, and parking billing operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in accounting and at minimum two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference given to highly motivated individuals with strong accounting and computer skills
WORK ACTIVITIES: Prepare and maintain monthly reconciliations and financial reports. Perform procedural reviews for efficiency and internal controls. Project and cost accounting for special projects, as assigned. Update annual debt service payment schedules. Assist in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
The Senior Accountant provides knowledge and information to various City departments and divisions, works with outside auditors on an annual basis to pull requested information, and provides weekly payroll support. Acts in a supervisory role, including supporting, training and evaluating the work of assigned employees. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Preferred candidates will possess excellent communication and organizational skills and display the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with administrative personnel, public officials, and the general public. Applicants should have working knowledge of municipal operations and governmental financing, principles, practices, and techniques; including proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and database software.
