Status:             Full-Time, 40 hours/week

Grade:             4   [starting at $19.60/hour]

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have high school diploma, or equivalent. Must have five (5) years heavy construction experience and at least three (3) years equipment operation experience. Utility experience, particularly in the water & sewer industry, is preferred. Must be trained in confined space, pit operation, trenching and excavation, and maintain active knowledge of all related safety training for Water and Sewer operations. Must possess a valid state of Maine Class A driver’s license with Endorsement ‘N’ for tanker operations. Must have the ability to obtain State of Maine Water Operator Class III certification within one (1) year of starting position.

WORK ACTIVITIES:  Operate heavy equipment and specialty tools in a safe manner and in accordance with all safety regulations. Completes skilled tasks involved with the installation and repair of water and sewer main, services and hydrants. Repairs, installs, reads and disconnects meters. Inspects customer installations for compliance with service standards and regulations. Turns services on and off. Performs locates on water and sewer infrastructure. Performs routine/minor maintenance on equipment. Maintain, repair, replace and operate City utilities and infrastructure during normal and emergency operations and extended work periods. Must be available for emergency response in all seasons; including after normal working hours for water, sewer and snow removal operations. Performs other duties as assigned.
