GENERAL INFORMATION:        Department:    Social Services/General Assistance

Barg. Unit:      Non-union

Status:             Full-Time/Temporary

Hours:             37.5 hours/week; 8:00a-4:30p Mon-Fri

Grade:             Starting pay $18.12 hourly

SUMMARY: The Principal Clerk is the first point of contact for most clients who have questions about programs and benefits available through the municipal social services and general assistance programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma, or equivalent and one year of clerical experience. Multi-lingual applicants (especially those with knowledge of French, Lingala and/or Portuguese) are strongly preferred.

WORK ACTIVITIES: Receives, evaluates and directs all incoming calls, takes messages and gives out information, as needed. Greets, directs, and provides information to clients and vendors. Schedules client appointments; inputs data for the compilation and maintenance of confidential files and records relating to workfare, state disqualification reports, monthly statistical reports and various other records. Orders supplies, makes copies, sends faxes, files records; trains for and performs other related duties, as required.
