Spend your summer on beautiful Lake Thompson at Agassiz Village Summer Camp as a Camp Counselor. Camp Counselors are responsible for the overall health and well-being of a cabin group of 12 kids and ensures that cabin life articulates Agassiz Village’s program philosophy. The Camp Counselor makes sure that the camp experience of their campers is fulfilling and enjoyable. Our Counselors interact with our campers throughout the entire day, helping them make friends, try new things, and generally caring for their well-being. The role of a Counselor is to participate, build relationships and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child. Counselors are the ambassadors of fun, while ensuring safety and adherence to Agassiz Village values and work closely with the Village Leader to ensure a service vision for camp which is consistent with the mission and goals of the organization. Position is from late June to mid-August. Housing and meals are provided.


· 18 years of age or older;

· In good physical condition;

· Experience in work and/or play interaction with children;

· Excellent verbal communications skills;

· Commit to 5 or 7 weeks.

· Strong interest in motivating campers to effective action;

· Be able to work as a team member;

· Demonstrate integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Agassiz Village;

· Possess the following qualities: patience, compassion, fairness, listening skills, and the ability to relate to children.

This position requires a consistently high energy level, a very high level of visual awareness, humor, creativity, the ability to recognize unhappiness and nurture children accordingly, and the desire to be a positive influence on the lives of children.

Agassiz Village is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to prepare kids for life’s journey by providing opportunities, in a summer camp environment, to develop and practice leadership and life skills that will impact their futures in education, family, career, and in their communities. Founded in 1935 by Harry E. Burroughs, founder of the Burroughs Newsboys Foundation, to serve as a haven for children from under-resourced communities. Agassiz Village has remained true to its original goal of making a transformative overnight camp experience accessible for children of all backgrounds. Agassiz Village is a 330-acre residential summer camp located on Thompson Lake in Poland, Maine. Our programs are an investment in the future, to inspire and enable all children, especially those who need our support the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible leaders.
