WPD 009 01 | Supervisory Skills for Leaders | 2.1 | | - | 03/15/2021 - 04/16/2021 | Newell, Marylin | | 20 | 16 | No manager looks forward to approaching employees about job-performance problems, yet few tasks are more important. Supervising People- The Essential Skills for Leaders will help you and identify communication barriers, performance issues and difficult employees. Learn the skills you need to address the difficult issues and improve team productivity.
Module One: Introduction to Supervision (To kick-off supervisory training, participants will examine the role of supervisor by exploring their perceptions of leadership, evaluating their self-image as effective supervisors, identifying the role expectations based on job descriptions, and evaluating their effectiveness in several competencies identified as important to the role of supervisors. Additionally, participants will discuss techniques for easing the transition from peer to supervisor and learn essential skills for building mutually trusting relationships.)
Module Two: Workplace Communication (Although we talk and listen every day, effective communication is a complicated skill that requires a solid understanding of where things can go wrong. This session blends the basic concepts of the communication cycle with an understanding of the physical, mechanical, and psychological barriers to effective communication. Evaluating their own effectiveness in the nine behavioral skills for effective communication will provide an action plan for improving communication skills.)
Module Three: Performance Coaching (Even with well-developed communication skills, no manager looks forward to approaching employees about job-performance problems, yet few tasks are more important. This session will help build coaching skills by providing supervisors with a technique for helping others learn from their mistakes. Supervisors will learn how to use feedback to reinforce desirable behaviors, and how to caringly confront problem behaviors. Performance coaching can inspire others to learn, grow and develop, and build a more loyal and committed workforce.)
Module Four: Handling Difficult Employees (Following-up with the performance coaching model, this session will provide additional practice in motivating employee performance and explore the challenges of dealing with particularly difficult employees and/or situations. This session will also help supervisors understand why performance problems occur and how to resolve them. By identifying potentially difficult employees and understanding their own behaviors, supervisors will be able to change the way they manage difficult employees.)
Module Five: Team Building (In this session, supervisors will learn how to formulate strong teams through building a climate of open communication, trust, and accountability. This session introduces supervisors to the stages of group development and helps them understand the role of the supervisor in each of these stages. Supervisors will learn how to build trust and establish a strong foundation through planning, organizing, motivating and holding a team accountable for results.) | Online | Online | OPEN | Register Now |
