Central Maine Community College welcomes your interest in transferring college credits earned before enrolling in
your major program of study here.
Central Maine Community College's Policy
Transfer credits are evaluated and automatically awarded to students once accepted into a program of study at
Central Maine Community College. Although we strive to do this initially, please feel free to contact us to assure
we are evaluating your potential transfer credits. Only courses applicable to your current major are evaluated for
transfer credit. Courses to be evaluated for transfer credit at a later date (for example taken in the summer
between later semesters) will need to be initiated by the student.
You may transfer course credit earned at another regionally accredited college or university to CMCC by furnishing
us with an official transcript sent directly from that college/university (not a student copy) and a catalog
description of your coursework from the institution that awarded the credit.
If we think the coursework you want to transfer is equivalent in nature and content to our requirements, and you
have passed with a grade of "C" or better, we will award transfer credit.
You should also know that we do not accept transfer credits which exceed seventy-five percent of total credits
required for the graduation award from the program in which you are enrolled. We also reserve the right to
challenge (test) your skills or abilities prior to granting transfer credit.
Grades for courses which have been accepted as transfer credit are not computed in your grade point average. Your
transfer credit will be received and approved by the Director of Registration and Records or her/his designee and
may require consultation with the appropriate faculty.
Students requesting Veteran's Educational Assistance are required to have all previous post-secondary educational
experience evaluated for possible transfer credit in order to be eligible for benefits.
How To Request Transfer Credits:
If you follow the procedure outlined below, your request should receive prompt attention.
- Review Central Maine Community College's catalog requirements for the program in which you are enrolled and identify the comparable courses which you have completed at another college.
- Contact the Registrar's Office at the college you previously attended and ask them to send an official academic transcript of your coursework to the Registrar's Office at CMCC.
- Contact the Registrar's Office to verify we have received your official transcript. We may be able to let you know at this time if a class will transfer or not and how it will transfer. Complicated transcripts may take additional time.
- After your request has been evaluated, we will send you a copy of the results.
If you have questions about any of these policies or procedures, or need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to call, write or
e-mail the Registrar's Office.
