Central Maine Community College became an outdoor classroom for Survey 1 students: Kevin Thompson gest pointers from department chairperson Richard Bastow as survey team member and CMCC student Travis Thurber observes.

Students from Richard Bastow's Surveying 1 class at CMCC took advantage of a spring day as they conducted a field exercise with theodolites.  A theodolite is a surveying tool that has the capacity to measure angles and elevation points on tracts of land. Students were measuring the verticle elevation of two different assigned points in the yard area at CMCC. They ran a closed level loop within a tolerance of 0.03 feet.

Participating in the field exercise were Larry Littlefield of Gray, Eric Stanicki of Auburn, Zack Rossignol of Winslow, Travis  Thurber of South Berwick, Kevin Thompson of Alfred, Derek Cash of Lewiston, Bradlee Staples of Winthrop, Debra Lajoie of Bowdoinham, Aimee Pratt of Lewiston and Charles Geneste of Fryeburg.

Bastow is a licensed professional land surveyor in the state and is the department chairman for the architectural and civil engineering technology program at CMCC.
