Emily Morris is Student of the Year for 2010

The Central Maine Community College Student of the Year for 2010 is Emily Morris, an Architectural and Civil Engineering Technology major from Jefferson, Maine. Emily has served willingly and admirably in various roles at the College while maintaining a strong grade point average in one of our most challenging programs. Emily

She served as president of the Women in Technology (WIT) student organization and as secretary of the Student Senate. She was an RA (Resident Assistant) for one of the residence halls and served on numerous committees.

The curriculum in Emily’s chosen major is full of such challenging courses as physics, calculus, soils & foundation, and architecture & design. She succeeded in these courses due to her hard work and determination. Her instructors noted that she approached all her courses with a can-do attitude, seeking out assistance when needed and working together with other students.

Emily enthusiastically participated in activities and encouraged others to do so as well. She helped assemble baskets for a women’s shelter, designed a logo for the WIT club pins, promoted the College at the Open House, and helped organize the “Clothes Closet” for students who needed to borrow clothes for job interviews. Emily’s work as an RA has been particularly noteworthy. Long-time Director of Housing Dave Gonyea stated, “Emily is one of the best RAs I have ever had in my 17 years at CMCC.”

Emily has excelled academically and has clearly made a difference at Central Maine Community College. Congratulations, Emily – and thank you!
