Machine Tool Students Help Local WomanJennifer Turner of Auburn is very grateful to two students in the Machine Tool Technology program at Central Maine Community College (CMCC). The students recently designed and machined a personal care device that will help her to better cope with her physical disability. Andrew Morton of Rumford, a second year MTT student, took on this effort as a special project, above and beyond anything required by the program. Andrew designed and made a stainless steel device, attached to a Velcro strap that is much easier to use and less likely to be dropped. The older device that Turner used was made of plastic and did not have a strap. Morton was assisted in the design of this prototype by fellow student Lewis Pratt. In addition, Pratt’s son Alex, a Cub Scout, helped to arrange Turner’s transportation to the campus in fulfillment of a merit badge requirement. Father and son are pictured here with Turner in the MTT lab. END |
