Collection and Services
Any library user can ask the Librarians for help finding answers to questions. We will help you find answers in all kinds of resources, books, periodicals, electronic databases or the Web on a subject, as well as help you learn how to use all the tools the Library has for finding information. Just Ask!
Material in the Reference Collection contains sources helpful in answering specific questions that are asked on a regular basis. Some examples of resources that can be found in our Reference Collection are:
- Almanacs and Gazetteers
- Phone Books
- Hoover's Directories of Business
- The Maine Register
- Maine Revised Statutes Annotated
The Library has over 15,000 books in print that are available for borrowing. For help in using our online catalog Minerva and finding a source on the shelves, stop at our Circulation/Information Desk.
Current Periodicals and Newspapers
The Library receives 90+ periodicals representing many of the programs of study at CM such as Automotive; Business; Early Childhood and Nursing to name a few. The Library also gets the daily editions of the following Maine newspapers --Bangor Daily News; the Kennebec Journal; the Morning Sentinal; Portland Press Herald; and the Sun Journal.
Back Issues of Periodicals
The Library keeps back issues of most periodicals received. Some of the periodicals are retained in paper format, while others are kept on microfiche. The periodicals in paper are kept in the back of the stacks arranged alphabetically by title. CMCC Serials List.
The exchange works by either replacing a book you take with a new book or returning the book that you have taken. No checking out of these books is necessary. Check with the Circulation desk for the location of the book exchange shelves.
