Types of financial aid
A combination of the following types of financial aid can make up your financial aid package:

Federal Pell Grant:
A grant program from the Federal Government. It is based on need and is for undergraduates. The federal Pell Grant is an entitlement program because once a student qualified for the grant, that student will receive the money regardless of which school the student attends.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG):
A grant for students. It is awarded based on need with priority given to Pell Grant recipients.

Maine State Grant Program:
Through this program, grants are available to Maine residents based on financial need. The FAFSA must be processed by May 1 for students to be eligible for the MSGP. For students attending full time the grant can be $1000 and for part-time students it can be $500. For more information on the Maine State Grant Program, please visit www.famemaine.com.

Institutional Scholarships:
The Funds are available through Central Maine Community College's Foundation and other sources and are awarded based on need. The scholarships and amounts vary depending on the student's financial situation and the criteria established by the Foundation. Scholarships are awarded through the Financial Aid Office.

Private Scholarships:
Information is available in the Financial Aid Office

Federal Work Study (FWS):
A student who qualifies for this program will be able to work in a part time job on campus or off campus in a community service program. Students receive a paycheck from the Business office every two weeks.

Federal Stafford Loans:

A first year student taking at least six credits may borrow up to $2,625, and sophomores may borrow up to $3,500. Independent students may borrow an additional $4,000 in an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. Unsubsidized means you, rather than the federal government, will be responsible for interest payments while you are in school. Consult your lender regarding capitalizing the interest. First time borrowers must complete an Entrance Interview before receiving the first disbursement of their loan. The Entrance Interview is conducted online at www.nelnet.net.
