2001-2002 Season
The Lady Mustangs finished
off their fourth regular season with a 23-1 record. They were a small team
with only nine players but they had the hearts of winners. With five
returning players from the previous year who went undefeated they were
sure to be the team to beat once again. For the third straight year they
won the Yankee Conference Championship and for the fourth straight season
the Mustangs won the NNESCC Championship. They also hosted the USCAA
National Tournament for the second year and again they placed third.
Lynn Girouard returned as the veteran of the
team with this being her third season. Again she led the team in assists
and this year in scoring and steals. She was named a USCAA All-American
for the third straight year and she is coming back again for her fourth
year!
Another veteran returning, Stacy Campbell
looked to
help the team keep up its fantastic record. Stacy was quite the
presence under the basket leading the team in blocked shots. She was also
one of the fastest players on the team and she was third on the team in
steals.
Back for her second season was Jessica
Veilleux. She was a big help in the backcourt and extremely quick being
second on the team in steals. She was a hard worker who never stopped and
she was a tremendous help to the Lady Mustang team.
Stacey Merritt was another returnee for the
Mustangs who looked to be another big presence under the basket. She was
back to do whatever Coach asked of her and to work harder than anybody
else did.
Wendy Rollins rounded out the returning
players from last season. She was the big post player for CM. She was
ready to push people around under the basket and make some key baskets for
the Lady Mustangs.
The next four players were key parts to the
Lady Mustangs success this year.
Rebecca Kovar joined the team this year from
Ohio. She was a speedy little guard who wanted to step up her game and
contribute to the Lady Mustangs. She did just that with her key baskets
and steals.
Elizabeth Debrowsky was another member of the
Mustangs from Turner. Liz was a great presence underneath for CM. She led
the team in rebounds and was extremely quick. It just seemed like wherever
the ball would be Liz would be. She was also named Rookie of the Year by
her teammates and she was very deserving of the award.
Amy Wooley was another member of the Lady
Mustangs from Vassalboro. Amy was another player who any coach would love
to have on their team. She did whatever Coach B asked and she did it to
the best of her ability. She worked harder than anyone else and she was
the heart and soul behind this team.
The last new member of the team was Jessica
Poisson. Jess was a quick little guard with a great shot. She worked
tremendously hard during practice and during games. She contributed a lot
to the team both on and off the court.
This year was a little tougher
for Coach B seeing as it was such a small team but with his coaching
ability he took them to the National Tournament once again and once again
they placed third.
