2000-2001
Season
The Lady Mustangs were the
team to beat in 2000-2001 returning five players and with a strong
recruiting class they were ready to play and compete. The lady Mustangs
finished the regular season undefeated and for a second straight year won
the Yankee Conference Championship. The CM Lady Mustangs also brought home
for the third straight season, the NNESCC Championship against Hesser
College. In 2000-2001 the Lady Mustangs also hosted the NSCAA National
Championship and place third in the tournament.
Lindsay
Jaques returned for her second season ready to play. She was the energizer
for the lady Mustangs and helped them into a third place finish in the
Nationals.
Sara Murphy returned for her third and final
season. She came off the bench first or second and always had an instant
impact on the game either getting a big rebound or scoring a big basket.
Jamie Auger also returned for her third and
final season. She was the glue that held the team together. She pushed
everyone to be the best they could be. She was the emotional leader and a
great player.
Cassie Brooks also returned for her final
year. She was a very strong player and a player who could play just about
anywhere you wanted her too. She had a deadly baseline jumper and she was
very quick.
The last returnee from the previous season was Lynn Girouard. She returned
as the point guard of the team and led the team in assists. She was also a
NSCAA All-American for the second straight year.
The new recruits were a promising crew who
looked to broaden the Lady Mustang team and become even more of a threat
within the league.
The first recruit was Stacy
Campbell. She was an outstanding athlete at Georges Valley both in
basketball and in soccer. She was a very versatile player, who could play
on the inside and on the outside and who could score from anywhere.
The next recruit was a hometown player from
Edward Little High School here in Auburn. Jess Veilleux was a flashy
little guard who looked to help Girouard out at the point guard position.
She could shoot from the three or drive it into the basket and she was not
afraid of anything.
Stacey Merritt was another hometown player
who graduated from Edward Little as well. She was the heart and soul of
the team and willing to do whatever Coach B asked of her.
Sonya Bouchard was another promising recruit
from Brunswick. She was a big presence inside and at 6’2” she was a
threat to the opposing team.
The next recruit Heather Morgan actually came
over from a rival school, Hesser College. She transferred to CM and helped
the Lady Mustangs out tremendously. She was a threat from the outside and
on the inside. She could post up just about anyone and shoot from just
about anywhere. She also was named a NSCAA All-American
The next two recruits joined the team in the
second semester and helped the team qualify for the National Tournament.
LaKeesha Holloman another Lewiston graduate and Wendy Rollins from Mt.
Blue looked to be two great recruits for the team and they were. LaKeesha
was an inside-out player who was everywhere when she was on the court.
Wherever the ball was, LaKeesha seemed to be. She was an extremely quick
player who was always the first one down the floor. Wendy was also a great
player who liked to play underneath. She was a great presence underneath
for the Mustangs and she worked extremely hard.
With these 12 players Coach
Bridges had quite the team behind him. They made it to the National
tournament and place third, which has been the best yet in CM Lady Mustang
history.
