Dargie returns ... as coach!

The Central Maine Community College Athletic Department is proud to welcome back Katie Dargie ‘09 as the newest member of the Lady Mustangs softball team. Katie will be the new assistant coach joining head coach Scott Lovejoy as she goes from the diamond to the dugout. The right hitting Auburn native Dargie played first base last year for Lovejoy and this year hope to build upon last year’s successes. Coach Dargie spoke highly of last year’s team “breaking up Southern Maine’s perfect season was a great confidence booster and really carried over.”

Confidence returns again this year as new recruits and a new season approaches. “This year we’re going to have a lot more speed on the bases, smart at-bats and an exceptional pitching rotation,” Dargie continued “cutting down on the mental errors will be a large focus, but I know and Coach Lovejoy knows that as the girls play and practice more and more they will become much better team.” The Lady Mustangs kick of their fall season with a double header against New Hampshire Technical Institute Saturday September 12 at 11:00am and 1:00pm.

Earning Respect

The 2009 Lady Mustangs are looking to bounce back from a roller coaster season and are determined to earn respect as the fall season begins. With Scott Lovejoy elevating his position from assistant coach to head coach and Kate Dargie joining the coaching staff they hope to help make this season a positive one.

Having only four returning starters Lindsey Neal, Christy McAuliffe, Ashley Quimby and Alyssa Felix and adding seven new faces to the mix, Candace Hall, Sara Martin, Hayley White, Michele Peaco, Sarah Faulkingham, Shayna Powell, and Kim Lawrence, the Lady Mustangs are working hard to accomplish their goal of winning the College’s first softball championship. This season the Lady Mustangs will rely on a combined effort from the four veterans and underclassman to do just that.

Although the team is young both coaches believe that with hard work and dedication the team has what it takes to make this season a successful one. Come out to Tribou field and watch the Lady Mustangs reach their goal!
