2002-2003 Season

The Mustangs finished their best season in school history, winning both the NEBA and the NNESCC leagues and earning an invitation to the USCAA national tournament in St.Petersburg, Florida.

CM 7 SMCC 6- Greg Hird scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning off a Josh Bourque single to give the Mustangs their first win of the young season. Nate Olson, Mike Sproul, Tom Mason, Greg Hird and Josh Bourque all were repeat hitters for the Mustangs. Dustin Longchamp earned his first of many victories on the mound, pitching just the bottom of the seventh inning and striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

CM 5 BHCC 3- Mike Sproul and Greg Hird each had two hits including two RBI’s to pace the Mustangs offensively. Hird earned the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 8 batters.

CM 9 BHCC 5- Nate Olson, Mike Sproul and Greg Hird all had three hits, combining for 7 RBI’s to power CM offensively to win the second game of the double header against Bunker Hill. Tom Mason went the distance on the mound, pitching all seven innings, striking out four batters and allowing just 5 runs. The Mustangs improved their overall record on the year to 3-0.

Mass Bay 8 CM 3- Greg Hird led the Mustangs with three hits, and Nate Olson and Ryan Beisaw each added two, as they combined for 7 of CM’s 8 hits in the ballgame. Olson had all three RBI’s for the Mustangs offense, which could not get enough runs to muster up the win.

CM 7 Mass Bay 6- Nate Olson, Jorin Bunyea and Dustin Longchamps all had two hits for the Mustangs offense. Tom Mason had two RBI’s to lead CM to win the second game of the double header. Justin Carver earned the win on the mound, pitching five strong innings, striking out 3 and allowing 8 hits.

UNH 7 CM 2 - Ryan Beisaw was the only repeat hitter for the Mustangs. Beisaw hit a long shot off starting pitcher Adam Andrews. That was the only big mistake for Andrews who allowed just 2 runs on just 4 hits. The Mustangs record dropped to 4-2 on the season with the loss in the first game of the double header.

CM 10 UNH 3- Greg Hird and Nate Olson each had three hits, combining for 6 RBI’s to lead the Mustangs offense to a 10-3 win over the UNH Wildcats. Mike Sproul and Ryan Beisaw each had 2 hits in the offensive outpour. Dustin Longchamps went the distance on the mound, pitching all seven innings, striking out 7 and allowing just 5 hits. The win in the second game improved the Mustangs record to 5-2 on the season.

CM 17 NHTI 1- Nate Olson, Mike Sproul, Greg Hird and Dustin Longchamps all had two hits to power the Mustangs offense to a thumping of NHTI 17-1 in just five short innings. Olson, Sproul and Longchamps all homered in win. Tom Mason pitched all seven innings on the mound to earn the win for CM, who improved their overall record to 6-2 on the season.

CM 2 UMO 5- Greg Hird and Nate Olson were the only repeat hitters for the Mustangs, who lost the first game of the Orono Invitational Tournament held at Mansfield Stadium. Jorin Bunyea pitched well for the Mustangs, who let up one big inning to the Black Bears, who got all their runs in the 3rd inning.

CM 7 BU 5- Nate Olson and Josh Bourque each had two hits for the Mustangs, who bounced back in the second game of the tournament, to beat Boston University 7-5. Mike Sproul went the distance on the mound, striking out 6 and allowing just 4 hits, improving his record on the mound to 2-0.

UNE 9 CM 8 - Nate Olson was the only repeat hitter for CM, collecting two doubles in consecutive innings. A five run seventh inning allowed UNE to edge past CM in the final game of the tournament. Jorin Bunyea pitched 4 strong innings to start the game, allowing just 2 runs and four hits.

CM 6 NHTI 3- A late offensive outpour by CM let them overcome a 3-0 deficit put up early by NHTI. Dustin Longchamps pitched the first 5 innings for the Mustangs, striking out 8 batters and allowing just 3 hits. Nate Olson, Greg Hird and Tom Mason each had three hits for CM. Olson went deep twice in the game to provide all the offense the team needed. CM improved their overall record on the year to 8-4.

NHTI 2 CM 1 - A run in the top of the 8th inning off a single led the NHTI Capitals to beat the Mustangs in dramatic fashion. Pitcher Greg Hird pitched a complete game for the Mustangs, striking out 9 and allowing just 3 hits. CM’s lone run came off a Dustin Longchamps home run in the second inning. The Mustangs dropped to 8-5 on the season.

NHTI 10 CM 4 - Tom Mason and Greg Hird were the only repeat hitters for the Mustangs, who lost the second game of the double header to the Capitals. Mason and Hird each scored two runs for CM, who dropped their overall record to 8-6 on the season.

CMCC 4 SMCC 0- Dustin Longchamps pitched all seven innings, getting a NO-HITTER against the SMCC Seawolves. Longchamps struck out 14 batters in the seven inning game. Nate Olson and Josh Bourque each had two hits to power CM’s offense. The Mustangs bounced back to 9-6 on the season.

CM 15 Hesser 4- In just five short innings, the Mustangs powered out 18 hits and getting 15 runs to overpower Hesser College. Nate Olson and Greg Hird each had 4 hits, scoring seven runs combined. Mike Sproul, Tom Mason, Corey Ouellette and Josh Bourque each had 2 hits for the Mustangs, who improved their overall record to 10-6. Mike Sproul hit a homerun and added 4 RBI’s to provide a great day offensively.

CM 14 Hesser 5- In the second game of the double header, the Mustangs bats continued to roll. CM pounded out 13 hits and were provided by great pitching from Dustin Longchamps, who allowed just 6 hits, while striking out 10. The Mustangs were paced offensively by Greg Hird who had four hits, and Nate Olson, who had two hits including a grand slam to provide all the offensive Longchamps would need.

CM 12 VTC 2- Greg Hird had three hits and 5 RBI’s to power the Mustangs offense to keep rolling for the fourth straight game. Nate Olson, Justin Carver, Ryan Beisaw, Corey Ouellette and Josh Bourque all added two hits each. Olson added 4 RBI’s for the Mustangs offense. Mike Sproul pitched a complete game on the hill, striking out 5 batters and allowing just 6 hits and 2 runs. CM improved it’s overall record on the year to 12-6.

CM 8 VTC 1- The Mustangs rolled in the second game of the double header to make it five straight wins. Nate Olson went 3-3 with 2 home runs and five RBI’s. Corey Ouellette, Greg Hird and Ryan Beisaw each added two hits in the win. Hird earned the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 8. The Mustangs improved their overall record on the season to 13-6.

CM 14 Hesser 4- The Mustangs continued their winning streak to 6 games by beating Hesser College 14-4. Nate Olson went 4-4 including a pair of home runs, while adding 6 RBI’s. Ryan Beisaw, Tom Mason and Greg Hird all added three hits for the high powered offense, combining for 7 RBI’s. Mason earned the victory on the mound, going all seven innings, striking out 5 and letting up just one earned run.

CM 7 NHTI 1- The #1 seeded Mustangs were just too strong for the #4 seeded Capitals, taking the first game of the playoffs 7-1 and knocking out the Capitals from tournament play. Dustin Longchamps earned the win on the mound, pitching six strong innings, improving his record on the year to 6-1. Greg Hird and Corey Ouellette each added two hits, while Nate Olson added a double with the bases loaded, which scored three runs. The Mustangs with the win move on to face Mass Bay Community College in the championship game. The Mustangs improved their overall record on the year to 15-6.

(NNESCC CHAMPIONSHIP)

CM 7 Mass Bay 5- For the second straight year, CM won the league championship, by beating Mass Bay 7-5. Thanks to good small ball and a great pitching effort, the Mustangs got just three hits in the game with no repeat hitters. Andrew Gray, Corey Ouellette and Mike Sproul pounded out the only hits for CM. Mike Sproul earned the win on the mound. The win qualifies the Mustangs for the USCAA National Championship, which will be held in St.Petersburg, Florida on May 3-7.

CM 8 UNH 2- The Mustangs improved their overall record to 17-6 on the year and extended the win streak to 9 straight games. Greg Hird, Ryan Beisaw, Tom Mason and Josh Bourque all added two hits each for CM. Hird and Bourque each added two RBI’s. Dustin Longchamps improved his pitching record to 7-1 on the year. Longchamps pitched 8 innings of the nine inning game, striking out 11 and walking just one batter.

CM 7 UNE 6- Nate Olson went 3-3 including a two run home run in the first game of the double header. Tom Mason earned the win on the mound, pitching five strong innings, striking out eight. Olson also turned three unassisted double plays at shortstop in the game. Chris Hinkley earned the save on the mound, pitching the seventh inning, allowing no hits and striking out two out of three batters he faced.

CM 9 UNE 8- The Mustangs continued their winning streak to 11 straight games, taking the second game of the double header in a nail biter over University of New England. Ryan Beisaw homered in the bottom of the sixth to go up by one run, which would prove to be enough for closing pitcher Greg Hird. Corey Ouellette earned the win on the mound, pitching 6 strong innings. CM improved their record on the year to 19-6.

CM 15 BU 8- Nate Olson went yard in back to back innings, supplying eight RBI’s on the game to power CM to a big win in the first game of the double header against Boston University. Ryan Beisaw, Andrew Gray and Dustin Longchamps all added two hits each for the rolling offense. Corey Decker went the distance on the mound, striking out 3 batters in seven strong innings. The Mustangs improved their winning streak to 12 straight games.

BU 3 CM 2 - The Mustangs winning streak ended at 12 games, falling to Boston University 3-2. BU scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to edge past CM. Nate Olson was responsible for all of the Mustangs offense, hitting a two run home run. CM was held to just 5 hits for the game. Greg Hird had three hits and Nate Olson had two, which were the only hits for the Mustangs. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 20-7 on the year.

CM 8 UMO 7- Nate Olson, Ryan Beisaw and Josh Bourque all added 3 hits in the game to overpower University of Maine 8-7 in a nine inning game. Nate Olson went deep in the game, while adding 4 RBI’s. The win improved the Mustangs record to 21-7 on the year. The win also solidified second place in the NECBA playoffs.

CM 14 BU 10- The #2 ranked Mustangs fought of the #3 ranked BU Terriers to advance to the championship game. Greg Hird, Justin Carver, Nate Olson, Mike Sproul and Andrew Gray were all repeat hitters on the day. Nate Olson added to the offense with 8 RBI’s. Hird earned the win on the mound. The win placed CM in the finals against the University of Maine Black Bears.
