The Central Maine Athletic Department is pleased to announce its taking applications for the tenth annual Point Guard Basketball Camp. “Point Guard” basketball camp is scheduled for boys ages 12-17 one day only on Sunday, September 26th from 9am-2pm. The girl’s session is scheduled for Sunday, September 19th from 9am-2pm. Both sessions will take place at Central Maine Community College in Auburn, Maine.
This camp is designed to educate and improve the skills of the Point Guard. The camp will combine in class instruction with on court instruction presenting all aspects of the position. The players attending the camp will receive individual attention from one of the best point guards (USCAA All-American Patrick Dempsey) ever to play in the Central Maine area.
This camp was created to benefit any Point Guard looking to bring his/her game to the next level and learn the skills necessary to bring his/her game to the next level. The staff will challenge each individual to work hard and push himself/herself in this intense day long camp. Players can expect to leave the camp with not only improved skills but a better understanding of the point guard’s role on the court.
The following will be covered: shooting off the dribble, protective dribble moves, aggressive dribbling, screen and roll and how to use, point guard mentality, passing, footwork, fast break preparation and much more.
The cost is only $60 for a one day session. For more information or to register, email
dgonyea@cmcc.edu or call 207-755-5251.

YSCC Men's Championship
AUBURN - Tyler Smithgall tallied 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds as Central Maine Community College secured the Yankee Small College Conference championship with a thrilling 75-72 victory over top-seeded New Hampshire Technical Institute in a game that featured 14 lead changes and nine ties on Sunday.
Clutch free throws down the stretch proved to be the difference as the Mustangs (19-6) earned their first YSCC title since 2004. Tied
72-72 with 40 seconds to go and each team in the double bonus, Eric Goodwin, Matt Sceviour and Cam Angell each hit a foul shot to secure the win. The Lynx (20-13) had an opportunity to tie the game in the final seconds, but Ahntwan Harris' offering from the left corner bounced off the front end of the rim.
The Lynx enjoyed a seven point advantage, their largest of the contest, with 10 minutes remaining. The Mustangs battled back to tie the game
60-60 on an Angell 3-pointer. Angell and Eric Goodwin ignited the crowd with back-to-back treys to put the Mustangs up 70-68 with 3:21 to play.
Sceviour finished with 15 points and seven boards. Angell scored 15 and Matt Lyons added 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Nick Hinkley pulled down six rebounds and was relentless on the defensive end earning the
tournament's Outstanding Defensive Player award.
Harris drained a game-high 25 points for the Lynx, Besfort Syla registered 10 points
and Jared Green added eight.
With a 31-point, eight rebound performance in a semifinal win over Hesser College on Saturday, Smithgall was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
