About the CM Foundation:

The Central Maine Community College Foundation, or CM Education Foundation as it is known, is a community-based, non-profit corporation that has as its sole mission “support for Central Maine Community College and its students.” The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of community and business leaders.  The Foundation has contributed over $600,000 to CM for scholarships, program improvements and capital projects.

The Foundation Board of Directors also serves as the Executive Advisory Council, providing a forum for matters that have a broad impact on the College.  Specific responsibilities of the Council include reviewing proposals for major changes in policies and programs, participating in the development of long range plans, and assisting with the interpretation of College goals, programs and needs to the general public.

Some Facts about the Foundation and Central Maine Community College

  • While CM is a state-supported institution, only half of its funding comes from its state appropriation.   A quarter comes from CM students (tuition and fees).  The rest comes from auxiliary enterprises (bookstore, cafeteria), contracts for training, grants and gifts.

  •  CM has more than doubled in the number of students its serves in the past six years.  This growth is due in part to the fact that the College offers greater choice in its programs of study.  It is also a function of policy-makers and others making a convincing case that the way for individuals to succeed is by getting a quality higher education.

  •  Since it began in 1992, the Foundation has provided over 800 scholarships to students with financial need and nearly $100,000 for equipment and other program improvements.  In the recently completed First Decade Campaign, the Foundation raised funds for improvements to the College’s physical plant.

  • Policy-makers and others have made the case that the future of

our economy and our communities depends on a greater number

of individuals going on - or returning - to higher education after

     high school.
