    Academic advising

TRiO participants are assigned to a TRiO advisor who helps students navigate through their academic program and helps them set and realize their goals. Like a coach, a TRiO advisor helps students identify and work on academic strengths and weaknesses, provides encouragement and offers suggestions for balancing college with other demands.

College Summer Initiative ( CSI ) Program

The College Summer Initiative is designed to ease the transition to college for students who are under-prepared. Participants are invited to sample some of the rigors of a college environment in an intimate and supportive setting and form skills and strategies to make their college experience successful. Content review in either Math or English is combined with study skills, problem solving and self-evaluations to prepare students academically. Teamwork and confidence building activities create both peer support and an increased sense of confidence in students’ abilities. Once the semester is underway, participants are invited to attend periodic workshops to maintain the connection with their CSI group, evaluate their experience and receive feedback and support for continued success.

  Tutoring

TRiO participants may request individualized tutoring in many subjects. TRiO tutors include professionals with considerable experience, adjunct faculty and students who have excelled in the topic they tutor. The most common subjects tutored through TRiO are math, algebra, physics, chemistry and computer sciences.

  Transfer

TRiO is especially interested in encouraging students to look beyond an Associate’s degree and provides transfer counseling services to help participants move on to a Bachelor’s degree. Transfer counseling can help identify colleges or universities that are a good match for the students’ interests and assist with the application process and other paperwork.

  Cultural Enrichment

Awareness and appreciation of diversity within the CM community and exposure to the cultural offerings of the world beyond it are important features in the TRiO program. Cultural enrichment programs sponsored by TRiO seek to expand student interests and cultivate the practice of life-long learning outside the classroom environment.

  Disabilities Services

TRiO students who have a disability are encouraged to access academic support services and training in use of assistive technologies with the Laura Rifkin, the TRiO Learning Consultant.
