TRiO programs originated
in the Higher Education Act of 1965. They were created
to help students overcome class, social, and cultural
barriers to higher education. Initial programs were
Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support
Services. Along with these three programs, TRiO now
includes Educational Opportunity Centers, Ronald E.
McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program, Veteran’s
Upward Bound, and Upward Bound Math/Science.
