Q. What is TRiO Student Support Services?

A. TRiO SSS is a federally funded program designed to help first generation, low income, or disabled students succeed in college, graduate, and pursue further academic endeavors.

Q. How long has TRiO been at Central Maine Community College?

TRiO was initially awarded to CMCC in 1997.  Since that date, we have been continuously funded. 

Q. How many students participate each year?

A. TRiO works actively with 175 students.

Q. Why do I have to be eligible?

A. TRiO funding is designed to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds to become and stay better prepared for college.

Q. Does it cost anything to join?

A. No, all services are free!

Q. What does TRiO stand for?

A. TRiO stands for the 3 original programs included in the Higher Education Act—Upward Bound, SSS, and Talent Search.

Q. What is first generation?

A. If neither of your parents have a Bachelor’s degree that they obtained right after high school, you are considered a first generation college student.
