Financial Aid FAQs
How do I apply for financial aid?
Go to www.fafsa.gov and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. You do not have to wait until you have been accepted to the College before you begin applying for financial aid.
Does CMCC have a financial aid deadline?
CMCC does not have a deadline, but we recommend that you submit your FAFSA by May 1st each year in order to be considered for all available types of financial aid.
What is CMCC’s school code for the FAFSA?
Our school code is 005276.
Are there additional forms that I need to submit?
Once we receive your FAFSA, we will know if we need additional documents from you. We will notify you in writing if we need anything.
When will I hear about what my financial aid will be?
We begin notifying newly accepted and returning students of their financial aid awards in early March, and on a rolling basis thereafter. If you are in the process of applying for admission to the College, you must first be accepted before your financial aid application will be reviewed.
What kind of financial aid might I receive?
Most forms of financial aid are based on need. Depending upon your eligibility, you may qualify for grants, scholarships, employment opportunities, loans, or any combination.
How will I be notified of my financial aid award?
The Office of Financial Aid will mail you a financial aid award letter, which will explain your financial aid and any additional steps that you must take to receive the funds.
Do I have to accept all of the financial aid that I am offered?
No. You can choose to accept some of your aid and decline all or a portion of other parts. To decline any part of your financial aid, simply email our office at email@example.com.
What college expenses does financial aid cover?
Your financial aid is designed to help you with your tuition, fees, books, supplies and living expenses. Depending on your eligibility and the maximum amounts available for certain programs, you may have enough to cover all of your expenses or may need to explore additional financing options.
How does financial aid pay for my books and supplies?
If your financial aid has been finalized at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester, and your financial aid will be enough to pay your semester charges and leave you with excess funds, a bookstore allowance will be placed on your CMCC Student ID Card for you to use to purchase books and supplies at the College Store.
To determine if funds have been placed on your CMCC Student ID Card:
- Log in to your CM Connect account at https://cmconnect.cmcc.edu/ics
- Click the Students tab
- Click ‘Payments and Student Billing’
- Click ‘My Account Balances’
- If you see ‘One Card Bookstore Allowance Charge’ listed, then funds are available
If I choose to live off campus, and want to use some of my financial aid to help with my living expenses, how and when do I receive those funds?
Your financial aid always goes first to pay your semester tuition and fee charges with the College. Any excess funds that are remaining after your College charges have been satisfied will be available to you in the form of a refund check, mailed to you from the CMCC Business Office approximately five weeks after the start of classes.
