Scholarships are funds that, like grants, do not have to be repaid. Scholarships are awarded from various sources using different criteria, usually reflecting the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award.
Central Maine Community College has a pool of scholarship funds that are awarded to qualified students who complete the CMCC Scholarship Application. Awarding decisions are usually made in the summer after the applications are reviewed by the Scholarship committee. CMCC Scholarships are funded in part through the CM Education Foundation, the Maine Community College System, and the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges.
Private organizations, foundations, employers and other institutions also provide scholarships. These are considered ‘external scholarships’ because they are awarded not by the College but by the scholarship provider. Students searching for external scholarships are encouraged to utilize free scholarship searches provided by organizations such as FAME (Finance Authority of Maine).
