Each December and May, the College Store holds a textbook buy-back month to help you unload heavy books while putting cash in your pocket, and allow upcoming students to have access to great books at used prices! Unlike selling online, you don’t have to deal with the hassle (and cost) of packing and shipping your books and you get paid cash right away. In 2013, the College Store put approximately $114,000 in cash back in the pockets of CMCC students, just from buying back their used books!
Book Buy-back FAQs
What kinds of books do you buy back?
The College Store may buy back any bound book required for classes, dependent on quality and whether any accessories for the book are present (CD’s that came with the book package, etc.). Required workbooks which have not been filled out may also be returned. Books must have been originally purchased from the bookstore.
Are there certain books you do not buy back?
Yes, there are a small number of books the College Store is unable to buy back including:
- Workbooks which have been filled out
- Unbound Books
- Books in which access codes have been activated
- Books in which packaged items are missing
Does quality matter?
Yes. We cannot buy back books that are excessively highlighted or written in, or damaged beyond regular wear and tear. If you are unsure, bring it by and we’ll assess it.
How much will I get for my books?
The price you will get for your book depends on its quality and whether the class is offered for the next semester. The College Store buys back books both for classes offered the next semester, and for an off-campus used book vendor. This arrangement allows us to buy back a wider range of books, putting more money in your pocket. All prices offered are competitive, and save you the cost of shipping your book and waiting for payment!
- Books used for next semester – 1/3 of original price at time of purchase. If the book was used when originally bought, you will receive 1/3 of the used price. If the book was new when originally bought, you will receive 1/3 of the new price.
- Books not used for the next semester – 25% - 35% dependent on quality.
