January 2, 2014
A recent alumnus, a staff member, a student, and the College were honored at the eighth annual College for ME-Androscoggin awards luncheon held in December.
Doreen Dignan was one of three students recognized for their efforts to pursue higher education while juggling the demands of school, families and careers. Doreen is a resident of East Livermore who graduated with honors last year with a degree in accounting. While enrolled at CMMC she maintained a full-time job and a full course load while caring for her ailing husband. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is employed at Mechanics Savings Bank. Doreen is now enrolled at St. Joseph’s College where she is working toward a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Jean Blais, learning and advising representative at CMCC received one of the advocate awards in recognition of her work with students. An honors graduate of CMCC and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Jean is now pursuing her bachelor’s degree in adult education at St. Joseph’s College.
Current CMCC student Danielle Wadsworth was recognized as a Musgrave Scholarship recipient. Finally, CMCC was honored along with Androscoggin Bank with this year’s corporate award, which recognizes employers who support further education for employees.
College for ME-Androscoggin was founded in 2005 as a regional collaborative in Androscoggin County. The goal of the group, which includes business, community, education and government leaders, is to double the number of college degree holders in Androscoggin County by 2015 and to create a “college-going culture” across the county. www.collegeformeandroscoggin.org/
