Physical Fitness Specialist
The Physical Fitness Specialist program combines exercise theory, applied fitness training, and practicum experience to prepare students for positions in the growing fitness industry. Students will learn the principles of exercise, human movement and physical conditioning, techniques for developing individual and group exercise classes, and how to operate equipment common in the fitness industry.
This program is designed for graduates to pursue one of three pathways:
- Enter the work force in a variety of agencies such as wellness/fitness centers, rehabilitation centers, or convalescent homes
- Engage in entrepreneurial careers such as personal trainer, fitness instructor or health/fitness business owner
- Transfer into a bachelor’s degree program such as physical education, exercise science or kinesiology
The Bureau of Labor Standards indicates that employment of fitness workers in the rapidly growing arts, entertainment and recreation industry is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2020.
