Below you will find specific information for both prior learning and industry certification exams. If you have any questions regarding these tests, or other tests not listed, please contact The Center for Testing and Assessment at (207) 755-5450.

CLEP

 

The College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a widely trusted Credit-by-Examination program.  These exams allow students of a wide range of ages and backgrounds to demonstrate their mastery of college-level material in introductory subjects and earn college credit. CLEP current offers 33 tests.

  • CMCC Testing & Assessment Center is an open testing site. Non-CMCC students may take CLEP exams at the Center.  Test takers should check with their institution to verify CLEP exams are accepted for credit.

  • Registration for CLEP test must be done on the CLEP website .  CLEP charges $80 per test, which is paid on the CLEP website. 
  • A $25 proctor fee must be paid by cash, check, or credit card at the CMCC Business Office. Receipt of this payment must be brought to testing center on test day.
  • DANTES funds CLEP exams (one attempt per title) for eligible military personnel.  See CLEP website for details.  The $25 CMCC proctor fee still applies.
  • You will be asked to provide your CLEP voucher number when you call CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment to schedule your exam.
  • CLEP tests are administered in the Center for Testing & Assessment by appointment only. Contact Dan Dundore, Center Administrator at (207) 755-5450 or ddundore@cmcc.edu .
  • Only one test may be taken per session.  You cannot retake the same test within 180 days.  Your score will appear on the computer at the end of the test.  Results will be mailed to the institution you indicate within 10 days and to you within a few weeks.
  • Each test taker must present one form of valid and acceptable identification to the Test Center administrator.  A detailed list of acceptable ID can be found on the CLEP website .
  • If you are taking an exam with a required essay (excluding College Composition), there is a $10 essay fee.  The fee will only be charged if the examinee passes the multiple choice section of the exam.  The essay will count as another test session (approximately 90 minutes), however will not be charged an additional service fee, just the $10 essay fee.

DSST

DSST exams offer 37 test titles in the areas of Social Science, Business, Mathematics, Applied Technology, Humanities, and Physical Science.  All the computer-based exams may be taken at CMCC.  The public speaking test is not offered by CMCC at this time.  Further information about DSST exams can be found at http://getcollegecredit.com/

  • The cost of the DSST examination is $80 per test, paid at the time of registration on DSST website.  There is an additional $25 proctor fee which may be paid by cash, check, or credit card at the CMCC Business Office. Receipt of this payment must be brought to testing center on test day.

American Council on Education (ACE)

The American Council on Education (ACE) has evaluated many exams that may be taken for college credit. These include but are not limited to: examinations on oral competency in foreign languages, various information technology and computer skills, business, automotive service, electronic technician, and drug and alcohol counseling. For more information about the exams that are available, talk with your Academic Advisor.

Pearson VUE

CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment is an authorized Pearson VUE testing center.  Pearson VUE is the leading provider of global computer-based testing solutions for information technologies, academic, government, and professional testing programs.  CMCC’s partnership with Pearson VUE provides our students and members of the community access to hundreds of academic and industry-recognized exams, including: Cisco, GMAT, Linux Professional Institute (LPI), Maine Real Estate and more!

Exams may be purchased and scheduled directly on the Pearson Vue website or by calling the CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment. Proctor fees for tests offered through Pearson Vue are included when registering on the Pearson Vue website (no additional fee is charged by CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment.

ETS - Praxis, TOEFL

The Praxis Series® tests are taken by individuals entering the teaching profession as part of the certification process required by many states and professional licensing organizations.

The TOEFL ® test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world, recognized by more than 9,000 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries, including Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the United States.

Microsoft

As a Microsoft IT Academy member and an authorized Certiport testing center, CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment is able to offer exams in the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) track and in the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) track.

CMCC offers numerous courses, both credit and non-credit that prepare students to take the MTA and MOS certification exams.  All Microsoft IT Academy courses at CMCC include a practice test and an exam voucher. 

CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment is also able to administer other Microsoft certification exams through our partnership with Pearson Vue testing.   A comprehensive list of Microsoft Certification exams can be found on the Pearson Vue website .

Industry-recognized certifications may be eligible for CMCC credit for matriculated students (click here to see list of certification to credit equivalencies).  Students are encouraged to check with their academic advisor.

CompTIA

CompTIA builds vendor-neutral certifications that measure foundational skills. Many of these exams are also prerequisites or electives for more advanced vendor certifications.

CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment is able to administer CompTIA exams through our partnership with Pearson Vue.  Proctor fees for tests offered through Pearson Vue are included when registering on the Pearson Vue website (no additional fee is charged by CMCC Center for Testing & Assessment).
